AJ Styles confirmed his real-life rift with CM Punk is officially over. Speaking on his WWE YouTube farewell vlog, the veteran addressed their past animosity, attributing the friction to miscommunication while highlighting their newly repaired friendship.
The transcription, provided by Fightful, captures the former champion reflecting on the emotional weight of their reconciliation after years of tension.
“I don’t think he understands how much it means to me because we had some rough times, him and I. It really bothered me because we were so close at one point.”
Styles emphasized that their personal differences no longer prevent them from respecting one another behind the curtain.
“Life’s too short to be angry with each other over stupid things. Me and Punk don’t think a lot of the same things but that doesn’t separate us from being friends and being appreciative of each other.”
He expressed gratitude for their ability to remain civil today, acknowledging the regrets they share over their previous conduct.
“We both said things in the past that we wish we could take back. With that being said, I’m so thankful for that match tonight. Canada of all places was amazing.”
This restored dynamic follows a bitter fallout tracing back to 2004. TNA pulled its talent from ROH, and Punk felt Styles failed to use his backstage influence to protect the locker room’s ability to work independent dates.
They maintained a tense relationship for two decades until making peace earlier this year. The duo recently clashed for the World Heavyweight Championship on a January episode of Raw, ending via disqualification following Finn Bálor’s interference.
