CM Punk’s Backstage Segment with WWE Official Had a Hidden Purpose, According to Veteran

CM Punk made his presence felt on the latest episode of RAW after once again costing Drew McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Money in the Bank. The Best in the World had a war of words with Seth Rollins and a backstage segment with Adam Pearce. Former WWE head writer Vince Russo believes the segment served a special purpose.

Punk came out on RAW to explain his actions from Money in the Bank. However, the former WWE Champion was soon interrupted by Seth Rollins who also ended up losing the world title match due to Punk. The duo were involved in a verbal confrontation, further building up the tension between them.

CM Punk also had a backstage segment with Adam Pearce where the WWE official asked him to stay at home next week since Drew McIntyre will be there.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Legion of RAW, Vince Russo stressed that the agreement was made to highlight that Punk is a ratings draw.

“There were two CM Punk things you have to see today to understand. First of all, he was sitting on the desk saying the sing-along was going on too long. Then, and this guy is smarter than that, he’s in the back with Pearce, and what does he say to Pearce? ‘I am not going to be here next week.’ Why would you ever say that in a million years? Do you know why he said that? Because we’re gonna see the ratings are higher this week than last week so you will know how valuable CM Punk is when he’s not on the show next week. He’s already telling his entire fan base, ‘ I am not going to be on the show next week.’ You would never do that. That is all by design.”

Adam Pearce also noted that CM Punk is not yet medically fit and thus the potential match against Drew McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam could be in jeopardy.
