WWE producer gets candid about CM Punk’s attitude since his “shocking” return

WWE producer Shane (Hurricane) Helms recently revealed how it has been having CM Punk around backstage since his shocking comeback.

Despite leaving WWE on bad terms in 2014, the 45-year-old surprisingly returned to the Stamford-based company last November at Survivor Series: WarGames. He has since joined the Monday Night RAW brand and competed in the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble Match.

In an interview with the Behind The Turnbuckle podcast, Helms revealed that Punk’s return was more shocking to him than Cody Rhodes’, considering the circumstances he’d left around. Meanwhile, he also addressed the unintelligent things that were written online about the parting of ways between the promotion and the star.

“Oh, the Punk one was definitely the bigger shock. For sure, yeah, I didn’t think he was ever gonna come back here just because of bad blood with past adminstrations and some of the stuff that was said online while he was gone, you know. But you also have to realize that we all say stupid stuff and, you know, fits of anger or whatever,” he said.

The producer also addressed The Best in the World’s attitude backstage since his comeback and said that the latter had been a pleasure to work with, and that did not come as a surprise to him.

“Maybe we were feeling that way at that time because I always do that. There’s definitely stuff I said in the past and people were like, ‘Well, did you mean it?’ And I’m always like: ‘At that time I did. I might not feel that way now but that’s how you grow as a person.’ So, in terms of feeling backstage, he’s been a pleasure ever since he’s been back, you know. And I never had no problems with him to begin with. So, I’m not surprised that he’s been a pleasure with me but I haven’t heard of anything bad either,” said Helms. [40:00 – 40:48]

CM Punk is feuding with Drew McIntyre on WWE RAW

The Best in the World suffered a torn triceps injury during a spot with Drew McIntyre at the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble Match. The two WWE Superstars have since been feuding ever since.

Punk joined the commentary team during McIntyre’s World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania XL. After The Scottish Warrior defeated The Visionary to capture the title, he taunted the 45-year-old star. Punk surprisingly attacked McIntyre before Damian Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on the Scotsman to win the championship.

In another episode of their feud, CM Punk also interfered to stop McIntyre from delivering a Claymore to Jey Uso during a number-one contender’s match on RAW, costing The Scottish Warrior another shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. It would be interesting to see how this rivalry unravels.
