Vince Russo, former WWE head writer, has called out the company for failing to capitalize on Rusev’s recent return. The Bulgarian Brute made his comeback on RAW last week, attacking the Alpha Academy. He first took down Akira Tozawa before locking Otis in The Accolade.
Despite WWE already promoting a match between Rusev and Otis for next week’s episode, Russo pointed out a critical oversight. During a backstage segment on this week’s RAW, Otis interacted with Sami Zayn but never mentioned his upcoming showdown with Rusev. Russo expressed frustration over the missed chance to build anticipation.
Here’s another part, man. So Sami is in there talking to Otis. Otis was attacked by Rusev last week. They billboard Otis is wrestling Rusev next week. So Otis is in the scene and says nothing about the Rusev business whatsoever. How can you not connect those dots?
Rusev appeared in a video package this week, reflecting on his reinvention during his WWE hiatus. He issued a warning to his rivals, promising to bring relentless punishment in the ring. With the match now confirmed, the lack of direct confrontation between Otis and Rusev has raised questions about WWE’s creative direction.
