Lyra Valkyria, the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion, recently provided insight into the mythological background of her ring name and her perspective on the fan-adopted nickname “bird lady.” During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Valkyria elaborated on these aspects of her presentation.
The champion explained the deliberate choice behind her name, Lyra Valkyria. “It was related to the Valkyrie,” she stated, connecting it directly to her personal interests. “So it’s still tied to my book and my favorite stuff, and I love mythology. So yeah, that’s where it all comes from.”
Despite this carefully constructed persona rooted in mythology, Valkyria acknowledged the simpler way many fans perceive her. When discussing the “bird lady” moniker, she commented on this contrast: “Yeah. Well, that’s—that’s just what all this deep meaning behind it and everyone’s just like, ‘Ah, bird,’” Valkyria observed.

However, she expressed an acceptance of the nickname, indicating that fan recognition is a positive outcome. “Yeah, well, whatever. If people like it, they can call me bird lady. I think it’s fine,” Valkyria remarked. “I think—I think it’s the idea if they remember you, you’re doing something right. Bird ladies are cool, right?”
Valkyria also shared an example of how fans have incorporated this nickname, referencing a popular animated GIF. “There’s like a GIF of this pigeon that flies straight at the camera, and I get that a lot. But now that I’m the champion, people have put a little title on the pigeon,” she described. “Pigeon looks great. It just changes the whole GIF. Like the pigeon looks so excited with the title. And I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s meant to be.’”
