Major Star Reveals Scrapped WWE Championship Plans Involving The Undertaker

Ken Anderson (formerly Mr. Kennedy) has revealed he was originally slated to become World Heavyweight Champion in 2007 before plans abruptly changed. The 49-year-old disclosed on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet that Vince and Stephanie McMahon had mapped out a title win for him after The Undertaker suffered a bicep injury as champion.

Anderson, who won that year’s Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania 23, explained the scrapped angle:

Taker needed surgery, so the plan was for him to barely survive a SmackDown cage match against Mark Henry or Batista. Someone would attack him after, then I’d cash in and pin him.

Instead, WWE pivoted, having Edge claim the briefcase from Anderson on RAW before cashing in on The Undertaker himself weeks later. The change cost Anderson what would have been his first world championship reign. Edge ultimately began his record-setting MITB cash-in legacy with the altered storyline.
