WWE Forbidden Door June Event Gets Major Update

WWE’s June 7 NXT x AAA: Worlds Collide to feature TNA, described as “Forbidden Door” event; AEW/AAA ties cut, Vikingo central to new WWE/AAA deal.

WWE Forbidden Door June Event Gets Major Update

A significant multi-promotional wrestling showcase, NXT x AAA: Worlds Collide, is scheduled for June 7, with WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) bringing together talent from its own NXT brand, AAA, and TNA for what is being characterized as a “Forbidden Door”-type special event, signaling a major new collaborative phase.

This upcoming Worlds Collide on June 7, featuring stars from WWE, NXT, AAA, and TNA, forms part of WWE’s broader strategy to increase its footprint within the Mexican wrestling scene. These expansion efforts are reportedly creating a stir within AAA, as individuals inside the promotion indicate that many performers, particularly those not under full-time agreements, face an uncertain future due to WWE’s growing involvement.

WWE representatives, including Jeremy Borash who has been directly interacting with AAA talent, have reportedly been dispatched to recent AAA television tapings to monitor activities and provide feedback. One observer from within AAA suggested these developments have led to a shift in the internal power structure, claiming some prominent figures have been “knocked down a few pegs of power.”

Further highlighting the evolving landscape is the scheduling of a championship match between El Hijo del Vikingo and Alberto Del Rio (also known as Alberto El Patron) just a week before the NXT x AAA: Worlds Collide showcase. One source described the timing of this bout as “hard to believe” it is purely coincidental.

Another person familiar with the situation commented, “Even if Del Rio sticks around, it’s almost a certainty that he’s dropping the title.” While Del Rio’s participation in Worlds Collide is not confirmed, El Hijo del Vikingo is reportedly positioned as a cornerstone of the new WWE/AAA alliance, evidenced by his significant placement in the partnership’s official announcements.

Concurrently, the working arrangement between AEW and AAA has formally concluded, meaning AEW talent will cease appearing at AAA functions. This change is considered largely symbolic given the limited frequency of such appearances previously, with Jeff Jarrett noted as one of the more recent AEW-affiliated names to compete in AAA several months ago.

The June 7 event itself is being set up to emulate a “Forbidden Door” atmosphere by incorporating talent from WWE, NXT, AAA, and TNA.
