AEW Reportedly Nearing A Major Championship Unification

AEW’s Sammy Guevara hints at unifying ROH and AEW tag titles if he and Dustin Rhodes win at Double or Nothing.

AEW Reportedly Nearing A Major Championship Unification

AEW star Sammy Guevara has suggested a potential unification of the ROH Tag Team Championship and the AEW World Tag Team Championship. This prospect arises as Guevara and his partner Dustin Rhodes, who currently hold the ROH Tag Team titles, prepare to challenge the Hurt Syndicate for the AEW Tag Team Championship at the AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view scheduled for May 25th. Sammy Guevara discussed this possibility in an interview with Mike Johnson of PWInsider.

During the conversation, Sammy Guevara elaborated on his and Dustin Rhodes’ efforts to elevate the significance of the ROH Tag Team Championship.

Dustin and I made it our goal to make the ROH Tag Titles mean more than gold. We’ve defended them in the Tokyo Dome, in Australia, and all over the world.

Guevara then directly addressed the upcoming AEW pay-per-view challenge and the potential aftermath:

Now we’re getting the chance to defend that honor on an AEW pay-per-view. Maybe we walk out with both sets of belts. Maybe we unify them. Maybe we make a new belt. Either way, we’re ready.

Should Sammy Guevara and Dustin Rhodes emerge victorious against the Hurt Syndicate at AEW Double or Nothing, Dustin Rhodes would achieve the distinction of becoming a triple champion. In addition to potentially holding both the AEW and ROH Tag Team Championships, Rhodes is also a current co-holder of the ROH Six Man Tag Team Championship, alongside Marshall Von Erich and Ross Von Erich. The outcome of their AEW Tag Team Championship match will determine if this title unification concept moves closer to reality.
