The current trajectory of WWE United States Champion Jacob Fatu presents a significant strategic challenge for the company’s creative leadership. Following a babyface turn at Money in the Bank where he acted against Solo Sikoa, Fatu has experienced a surge in audience support, yet his established character identity may conflict with the role.
Fatu’s “Samoan Werewolf” persona is defined by intensity, unpredictability, and a style of athletic brutality. These are attributes that do not align with the conventional archetype of a babyface historically presented in WWE. An attempt to modify his character to fit a more traditional heroic mold runs the risk of diminishing the core elements that have driven his popularity. This situation could necessitate a return to a heel alignment for Fatu in the future.
This creative issue is intensified by the development of a storyline that positions Fatu in opposition to Solo Sikoa, with a potential major confrontation anticipated for SummerSlam. The feud is being structured as a wider faction conflict rather than a simple one-on-one program. Sikoa is currently aligned with JC Mateo, Tama Tonga, and Tonga Loa. Furthermore, reports suggest that Hikuleo could also be introduced to bolster Sikoa’s group.

The composition of Sikoa’s faction introduces a narrative wrinkle, as Mateo, the Tongans, and the rumored Hikuleo are not direct blood relatives of the Anoa’i-Fatu family. However, WWE’s creative direction has previously demonstrated a willingness to blur these lineage lines to serve a story, making an internal struggle among a group of Polynesian wrestlers a distinct possibility.
As the United States Champion, Fatu currently operates outside of the main event picture. There is a potential parallel to the trajectory of LA Knight, where a performer’s popularity while holding a mid-card championship could create booking complications if not managed toward a main event elevation, possibly resulting in a loss of momentum.
