AEW Forced to Alter All In: Texas Plans Due to Mariah May’s WWE Signing

A report details how Mariah May's departure from AEW and move to WWE forced a significant change in the creative plans for All In: Texas.

Initial creative plans for the AEW All In: Texas event were reportedly altered due to Mariah May’s decision to sign with WWE. A report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter outlines how May’s departure prompted a shift in direction for the AEW Women’s World Championship picture.

The original concept for the event months ago included May, who officially joined WWE’s NXT brand in early June. According to the report, the change in her contract status was a key factor in reshaping the card.

Those close to Mercedes Monè say she was willing to lose to Athena to build a rematch at AEW All In Texas. But when the Toni Storm vs. Mone match was decided upon, it made no sense for her to lose that match and not win the Owen Hart tournament. The original idea months back still involved Mariah May for All In, but obviously that was changed when May wasn’t going to sign a new deal.

The booking of Mercedes Moné versus Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s Championship at the event became the new direction. Consequently, a potential loss for Moné against Athena, intended to set up a future match, was no longer considered a logical step in the narrative, nor was her not winning the Owen Hart tournament.

As a result, the current confirmed title match for All In: Texas will feature Toni Storm defending the championship against Mercedes Moné.
