Komander has sustained what is being described as a significant knee injury, forcing him out of action for the foreseeable future. The incident occurred during a show in Oaxaca, Mexico, last Sunday when the high-flyer slipped on the ropes while attempting his signature ropewalk Fosbury flop.
According to a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one of his opponents, Ultimo Guerrero, was able to catch him, an intervention that prevented a more severe outcome. The injury was serious enough to keep Komander from being medically cleared for this week’s AEW Summer Blockbuster event, where he was scheduled to team with “Speedball” Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight. He was subsequently written out of the match via a backstage attack angle involving The Hurt Syndicate.
Meltzer provided further details on the severity of the situation. “He was getting it checked this week to find out the severity of it, but he did show up to Dynamite and wanted to do the match and the doctors said no way possible, so it is serious,” he wrote.
As a result of the injury, Komander is now expected to miss the upcoming Fantasticamania event in Arena Mexico next Friday. He was slated to team with ROH World Champion Bandido and Hologram to challenge the reigning champions Mistico, Dorada, and Neon for their titles. A replacement for Komander in the high-profile match has not yet been announced.
