Despite a well-documented history of personal friction, MVP holds a professional respect for fellow AEW star Chris Jericho, pointing to a specific lesson he learned during their time together in WWE.
On the third episode of his “Marking Out with MVP and Dwayne Swayze” podcast, MVP detailed an instance where Jericho prioritized another wrestler’s career advancement over his own win-loss record.
“Chris Jericho campaigned for me to beat him one day in a match,” MVP stated. “And Chris Jericho said ‘It doesn’t hurt me to lose to you, but it does a lot you to beat me.’ And he campaigned for me to win. And I learned that and I went ‘Okay.'”
MVP explained that he later applied this very principle himself while working in MLW, specifically in a match against a young MJF.

“Like, when I was in MLW with MJF, we had a match, I put MJF over,” he added. “And it reminds me of that period, you know? It didn’t hurt me, and where he was at in his time in his career coming up, it was a really good win for him. And that’s professionalism.”
The praise is notable given the past animosity between the two, which included a tense hotel lobby encounter in 2022 and other reported disagreements. However, sources indicate the two men settled their differences after MVP arrived in AEW in 2023.
