A recent report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select has provided insight into the reason for AEW’s recent format changes for its weekly television programming. According to Sapp, the decision to air a four-hour block of wrestling on Wednesday nights was made at the request of Warner Bros. Discovery.
The network is reportedly experimenting with different ways to present AEW’s content as the promotion’s presence within the WBD media portfolio continues to grow.
This experimental format was implemented for the two most recent episodes of AEW’s Wednesday night programming. The company presented both its flagship show, Dynamite, and its Saturday program, Collision, back-to-back. These combined broadcasts were branded as special events, first as Fyter Fest and most recently as Summer Blockbuster.
