Alberto Del Rio was involved in a physical altercation with El Hijo del Vikingo’s father during an appearance on the morning television program ‘Venga la alegría’. The incident occurred as Del Rio, currently competing in AAA as Alberto El Patron, was promoting his AAA Mega Championship defense against El Hijo del Vikingo, scheduled for the May 31st AAA TV taping.
During the live segment, after Vikingo’s father made an appearance, Del Rio tore off his own shirt and repeatedly punched the elder man. The situation escalated further when Del Rio threw a chair and reportedly engaged physically with a crew member. Production staff and security intervened to control the scene, and a woman was heard urging Del Rio to depart the set, which he eventually did.
This confrontation has generated considerable online discussion, with some speculating it was a scripted segment to build anticipation for the championship match, while others have criticized Del Rio’s conduct. The incident also brings attention to Del Rio’s rumored return to WWE, particularly since WWE announced its acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide in April and has been in discussions to bring him back.
WWE is set to present WWE x AAA Worlds Collide on June 7th. Del Rio was previously released by WWE in 2014 due to unprofessional conduct.
Adding another layer to the upcoming AAA Mega Championship contest, WWE advertising for the Worlds Collide event has featured El Hijo del Vikingo versus Chad Gable in a match for the AAA Mega Championship, suggesting a title change prior to June 7th. El Hijo del Vikingo also appeared on the May 26th episode of WWE RAW, becoming involved in Chad Gable’s Money in the Bank qualifying match after Gable ambushed him.
