According to a report from Fightful Select, Damian Priest is currently performing while managing several injuries. His willingness to work through his condition has reportedly earned him praise from sources inside WWE for his toughness.
The situation extends back to his recent program with Drew McIntyre, during which Priest was already working banged up. He has since sustained additional injuries but has continued to compete. While McIntyre’s recent absence from programming was related to his contract status, it was Priest’s physical condition that was a matter of concern for company officials at the time.
A specific incident that contributed to his current state occurred at WWE Backlash in May. Following the event, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque confirmed a minor injury Priest sustained during a United States Championship match.
“Priest got a tooth that he’s hoping will stay inside of his head for a couple days here and get solid again,” Levesque stated during the post-event press conference.
That injury took place during a tumultuous part of the match that involved both Priest and Drew McIntyre being driven through tables.
Despite the ongoing physical issues, Priest is still factored into significant creative plans for the upcoming SummerSlam premium live event. The event is considered a “home game” for the performer, making his presence on the card an important objective.
Priest’s last televised in-ring appearance was on the June 13 edition of SmackDown. He competed in a first-round King of the Ring tournament match against Cody Rhodes, Andrade, and Shinsuke Nakamura.
