The landscape of the women’s division on WWE RAW was jolted during the June 9 broadcast from Phoenix, Arizona, by the return of Bayley. Her reemergence came during a segment initiated by the new Women’s Intercontinental Champion, Becky Lynch. As Lynch addressed the audience and called out a visibly angered Lyra Valkyria, Bayley seized the opportunity to launch a surprise attack from behind on the champion, making her intentions clear.
Bayley’s assault is directly rooted in the events that led to her hiatus. The attack serves as retribution after a storyline angle orchestrated by Lynch caused Bayley to be removed from a scheduled Women’s Tag Team Championship match at WrestleMania 41. Lynch then inserted herself into the match, winning the titles alongside Valkyria and keeping Bayley off television for nearly two months.
While away from WWE programming, Bayley remained active. She consistently used social media to tease an eventual confrontation with Lynch, posting photos of her training regimen. Bayley also made an appearance at a Big Time Wrestling independent event, where she accompanied Lyra Valkyria’s fiancé, LJ Cleary, to the ring for a match she had been seen training for with him.

On that night, she competed in a winning effort against Liv Morgan in a match that lasted just over twelve minutes, which was her last official contest before her storyline injury and subsequent absence.
