Carlito has revealed that his tenure with WWE is concluding, announcing on Sunday evening via X that his contract will not be renewed. This development closely follows the recent news of R-Truth’s contract with WWE also not being extended. “My contract is up in 2 weeks. It will not be renewed,” Carlito stated.
He made his initial WWE debut in 2004, memorably defeating John Cena for the United States Championship. Carlito remained with the company until 2010, after which he primarily returned to WWC, where his career began in 1999, making sporadic WWE appearances over the subsequent years.
In 2023, Carlito re-signed with WWE on a full-time basis. During this recent period, he was often featured in a comedic support role for The Judgment Day and had limited televised in-ring action, with his sole broadcast match in 2025 being his participation in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

Addressing his recent WWE activity, Carlito humorously posted, “On top of that, WWE is demanding I pay back the $ they paid me for apparently ‘stealing money’ from the company.” He continued the jest, adding, “I’ve had my lawyers look into it and after reviewing my footage on Netflix for the past months they suggested I pay them back the money.”
Transitioning to a more serious tone, he expressed his gratitude: “All jokes aside, gracias WWE & especially the WWE universe,” followed by, “[I love you very much!]” Throughout his WWE career, Carlito also held the Intercontinental Championship, the WWE Tag Team Championship, and the World Tag Team Championship.
The 46-year-old performer captured the WWC Puerto Rican Championship over the weekend, defeating Ray González at the WWC Summer Madness event. It is understood that Carlito will now continue his wrestling career in WWC. His departure is another instance of a veteran performer leaving WWE, as R-Truth’s contract was not renewed effective June 1, 2025, after a seventeen-year second stint with the promotion, a decision also not attributed to any misconduct.
