CM Punk Mocks John Cena by Recalling Their Controversial 2013 Match

CM Punk shares Instagram post referencing his final RAW singles match against John Cena from February 25, 2013, ahead of their upcoming Elimination Chamber confrontation.

CM Punk posted a taunting message on Instagram directed at John Cena, highlighting the 12-year anniversary of their final singles match. The February 25, 2013 bout on RAW served as a number one contender’s match for the WWE Championship, which Cena won to earn his WrestleMania 29 match against The Rock.

In his social media post commemorating the match, Punk included a clip from their critically-acclaimed contest and a direct message for his long-time rival.

See you Saturday, John boy 👹 👑.

The 2013 RAW match gained notoriety when Punk executed a piledriver, a move banned by WWE at that time. Despite suffering from jet lag and the flu during the match, Punk has previously cited this as one of his proudest in-ring performances.

The two veterans will face each other again this Saturday inside the Elimination Chamber. Their storied rivalry began in 2008, with both competitors sharing the ring numerous times as both opponents and occasional tag team partners.

Their most recent tag team match occurred on December 18, 2013, when they joined forces to defeat The Shield in a handicap match on SmackDown. Prior to Royal Rumble 2025, this was their last time working together in any capacity.
