WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) performer Drew McIntyre has revealed he is currently “working hurt” following a specific incident at WWE Backlash involving Damian Priest earlier in May 2025, though he is still slated to face Priest in a steel cage match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on May 24, 2025.
In a discussion with the Orlando Sentinel, Drew McIntyre disclosed that he is not at full physical capacity, specifically mentioning an inability to turn his head completely to the left. This condition stems from a moment during his WWE Backlash match with Damian Priest in May 2025 where a South of Heaven chokeslam from a production area sent him through a table, causing his head to strike the floor.
McIntyre further shared his perspective on performing with ailments, stating, “Working hurt is just what happens if you’re an athlete, especially as the years go by. If you’re injured, it is something to take care of. Maybe back in the day, we would have taped it up and gone with it. In the past I have worked with muscle tears and breaks, which isn’t the most sensible thing, but the way we operate now, you want to last for the long run.” Following the WWE Backlash incident, McIntyre underwent a backstage medical evaluation and was not found to have sustained a serious injury.
His rivalry with Damian Priest is set to continue inside a steel cage on May 24, 2025, at Saturday Night’s Main Event. This WWE broadcast will emanate from the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, streaming live on NBC and Peacock from 8 p.m. Eastern time.
The show will also feature World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso defending his title against Logan Paul, a tag team contest pitting CM Punk and Sami Zayn against Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker, and a non-title bout between Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena and R-Truth.
