Former WWE Champion Downplays Criticism Of Hendry’s Quick WrestleMania 41 Loss

Matt Hardy argues the cross-promotional value of Joe Hendry's WrestleMania 41 appearance against Randy Orton outweighed the match result itself.

Matt Hardy believes the focus on Randy Orton’s quick victory over Joe Hendry at WrestleMania 41 misses the point. Speaking on his podcast, Hardy addressed fan criticism regarding the roughly three-minute bout featuring the TNA World Champion.

“The match was irrelevant at the end of the day. The only people that are worried about that are the die-hards, the sickos,” Hardy commented. He emphasized the significance of the TNA titleholder appearing on WWE’s grandest stage against a top star.

The match occurred after Orton’s original opponent, Kevin Owens, was sidelined by injury, leading Orton to issue an open challenge answered by Hendry. Some fans felt the short duration diminished the TNA representative.

Hardy countered that the visibility gained for TNA was the primary benefit. “You have the TNA World Champion against Randy Orton, a legit legend… Everybody was highlighted, everybody got their stuff in, and it’s helped TNA,” he explained. (Quote source: Wrestlingnews.co)
