WWE has officially confirmed that Goldberg’s career will conclude at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, 2025. The company announced through press releases and promotional materials that the Hall of Famer will challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship in what is being billed as his final match.
The event will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, the same city where the animosity between the two originally ignited. This confirmation puts an end to speculation, framing the title bout as the definitive end of Goldberg’s in-ring career.
The path to this final encounter intensified on the June 16 episode of WWE RAW, when Goldberg made a surprise return to confront Gunther, who had just won back the World Heavyweight Championship from Jey Uso. However, the feud’s roots trace back to Bad Blood in 2024, where Gunther provoked both Goldberg and his son, Gage, who were watching from the audience.
Despite the storyline justification, the announcement of the immediate title opportunity drew criticism, notably from WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray on his Busted Open radio show. When asked about those critiques during an appearance on The National Football Show with Dan Sileo, Goldberg offered a blunt response.
“I was 176-0. I don’t have to stand in freakin’ line… So Bully Ray can bite me,” Goldberg stated. “But everybody’s got an opinion, and Bully Ray has a podcast that’s about wrestling, and so you’re obviously gonna chime in and give your two cents, and I love him to death and I respect his opinion. But his opinion is like an asshole and everybody’s got one.”
Goldberg also addressed the comments about his age and physical condition, acknowledging the reality of his 58 years while affirming his commitment to deliver a memorable final performance.
“So I mean, that’s fine. Everybody, ‘Oh, Goldberg’s limping to the ring, Goldberg’s small, Goldberg’s old.’ I am freakin’ old. What do you want me to do? … Turn the clock back? But, show me another 58-year-old dude that’s willing to go out and do this? I mean, there’s a couple. But I’m gonna hopefully surpass their performance and at the end of the day, I gotta surpass my performance in the past.”
Tickets for Goldberg’s final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event will have a presale beginning on Monday, June 23, before going on sale to the general public on Wednesday, June 25.
