Vince Russo expressed concerns about Gunther’s future in WWE during Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Legion of RAW. The former head writer suggested the current World Heavyweight Champion could face difficulties maintaining his position after losing the title he’s held since SummerSlam 2024.
Gunther’s upcoming title defense against Jey Uso at Saturday Night’s Main Event sparked Russo’s analysis:
Chris, I’m telling you right now. I can see the writing on the wall. When they take this belt off of Gunther, he is going to fall into oblivion and mean nothing! Zero. Because they are booking this dude horribly. Horribly! And he is the champion.
Comparing championship reigns
Russo contrasted Gunther’s current run with his previous World Heavyweight Championship tenure. He pointed to the champion’s undefeated streak prior to winning the world title:
Well, I guess what they were hanging on was that he was undefeated. That’s what they were riding. We don’t have that anymore. Bro, talk about an afterthought. It’s very disappointing to see people with a lot of talent getting booked horribly.
The Ring General’s upcoming defense against Jey Uso could prove pivotal in determining his position within WWE’s hierarchy.
