Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) officials were reportedly left frustrated and humiliated by recent comments from Joey Janela concerning Sabu’s final match. According to Fightful Select, GCW promoter Brett Lauderdale addressed the interview directly with Janela.
The controversy stems from Janela’s interview with Uncrowned, where he stated Sabu was given kratom before his last match against Janela at GCW Spring Break 9. Sabu passed away at age 60, weeks after this bout.
Janela responded to online criticism, asserting, “We didn’t give him kratom his team did, it’s also not illegal and 85% of professional wrestlers do it especially the ones on TV. So f* you.”* He added Sabu was a grown man who did what was necessary.

When fans pressed Janela for accountability regarding Sabu wrestling in that condition, Janela replied, “Kiss my ass.” He further stated, “Sabu’s friends and family are over the moon for what we did for him, once again f* you and kiss my ass.”*
Fightful Select also noted there is currently no indication that events related to the GCW match contributed to Sabu’s passing. Sabu made a public appearance at WrestleCon following the match.
