An unscheduled confrontation during the WWE x AAA Worlds Collide presentation on June 7 led to a last-minute championship bout at Money in the Bank. Following a six-man tag team match featuring Octagon Jr., Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio, who was at ringside with Liv Morgan, entered the ring with a microphone.
Mysterio berated Octagon Jr. for his admiration of Rey Mysterio, labeling the WWE Hall of Famer a “deadbeat.” The remarks sparked a physical altercation between the two, which culminated in Mysterio challenging Octagon Jr. to a match for the Intercontinental Championship later in the evening.
During the subsequent title match at Money in the Bank, Liv Morgan proved to be the decisive factor. Morgan created a critical distraction, interfering while Octagon Jr. was positioned on the turnbuckle.
This interference shifted the momentum entirely, allowing Mysterio to capitalize on the opening and secure the victory, thereby retaining his Intercontinental Championship. Prior to the match, Mysterio was seen with a bruise on his temple, an apparent result of the earlier brawl at Worlds Collide.
