Latest Update on Mariah May’s New Character Direction

A new vignette on WWE NXT introduced Blake Monroe, with key sequences drawing direct inspiration from musical artist Sabrina Carpenter.

The official introduction of Blake Monroe to the WWE NXT universe took place on the June 10 broadcast, featuring an artistic video package that evoked the essence of golden age Hollywood. The vignette’s unique style, however, drew its primary inspiration from a contemporary source: musical sensation Sabrina Carpenter.

The video presented several memorable sequences that mirrored Carpenter’s work. Monroe was shown in a bathtub holding a newspaper bearing her own image, a direct visual reference to a similar scene in one of Carpenter’s music videos where she reads a paper headlined “Sabrina Loves to be on Top.”

Another moment, featuring Monroe draped in a towel before revealing a black corset, was inspired by Carpenter’s live stage entrances where she has appeared in a bathrobe. The vignette established a character centered on glitz and glamour, a theme well-aligned with Carpenter’s recent aesthetic.

From AEW Champion to NXT’s “The Glamour”

The performer, formerly known as Mariah May in AEW, has fully transitioned to her new WWE persona. Her AEW contract expired in late May 2025, following a successful tenure that included a 174-day reign as the AEW Women’s World Champion and notable rivalries with Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa. Now in NXT, she retains her nickname, “The Glamour,” which was also featured in the debut vignette.

The name Blake Monroe itself holds personal significance, combining a tribute to her niece, Blake, with an homage to the iconic Marilyn Monroe. This new identity was created as she officially signed with WWE, with the company trademarking the name.

Fans will not have to wait long to see more of the new star, as it was announced that Blake Monroe is scheduled to officially sign her NXT contract during next week’s episode. This sets the stage for her to begin her journey on the brand, bringing her established “Glamour” persona to a new audience.
