Former WWE Champion Dave Bautista has articulated his primary ambition in Hollywood, revealing that his focus is on achieving a level of respect akin to what he earned during his tenure with WWE, rather than merely chasing stardom or financial gain. He made these remarks during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated.
Discussing his motivations with Sports Illustrated, Dave Bautista stated, “In wrestling, the respect I earned from people like The Undertaker, Triple H, and Eddie Guerrero meant everything to me. It’s the same in Hollywood. I want to feel like I deserve to be here, that I’ve earned my place among the best.”
He further elaborated on this goal, sharing, “I never wanted to be just a movie star or chase a paycheck. I wanted to prove I could stand on stage with the best actors in the world and hold my own.”

Dave Bautista’s aspirations extend beyond acting, as he has also ventured into film production to shape and create meaningful stories. “Being a producer means I can shape the stories I want to tell,” he explained. “It’s about more than being in front of the camera; it’s about contributing to the art as a whole.” His aim is to create films that resonate deeply with audiences.
Dave Bautista was a prominent full-time performer in WWE from 2002 to 2010. He later made a notable return in 2014, winning the Royal Rumble match that year, which led to a World title match at WrestleMania 30, before departing the company again that same year. His final WWE match occurred at WrestleMania 35, where he faced Triple H in a no-holds-barred contest, which he lost.
In a separate discussion with Film Inside, while promoting his film ‘In the Lost Lands’, Dave Bautista compared the demands of his current and former professions. He credited WWE for instilling a strong work ethic.
“I have a strong work ethic, and my work ethic really came from the WWE, if nothing else, they’re not only durable people, but it’s just the hardest grind that I could ever imagine,” Dave Bautista said. “Being in Hollywood and being on a film set, it’s long hours, but compared to the grind of being a professional wrestler, it’s just a cakewalk. I mean, it’s night and day.”
Reflecting on his journey and perspective, he added, “I’m in this business, and I find it hard to relate to people who are just always unhappy on set and always complaining about something. I don’t relate to that at all… I grew up and with not much, and I’m always grateful for everything I have… I’m happy to be here. I’m happy to have opportunities. I’m grateful to be in this business, you know? I’m grateful to be able to do what I love.”
Dave Bautista has consciously chosen diverse acting roles, such as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy and Leonard in Knock at the Cabin, to showcase his range and avoid being typecast. His upcoming film projects include Trap House, scheduled for a November 14, 2025 release, as well as The Wrecking Crew and Afterburn. He is also recognized as a future WWE Hall of Famer, with a previously planned induction having been postponed.
