A new drama series set in the world of professional wrestling is in the early development stages at Netflix. First reported by Deadline, the project is titled “Tuesday Night Titans” and brings together former WWE writer Michael Notarile and Wicked director Jon M. Chu.

Notarile, who was part of WWE’s main roster creative team from 2013 to 2015, is creating and writing the series, with Chu attached as an executive producer. The narrative centers on a writer who takes a career risk to recruit her estranged childhood best friend, a jobber on the independent circuit, to join the major wrestling promotion they both grew up admiring.

The story is set to explore their journey as they navigate personal demons, ruthless colleagues, and a complicated past within an industry where the lines of kayfabe bleed into every part of their lives. While details are emerging, Netflix has not yet made an official comment on the series.

Although the title is a clear reference to the 1980s WWF talk show, the new Netflix drama is an entirely separate and unrelated project. The original Tuesday Night Titans, a variety program hosted by Vince McMahon, was recalled by Jake “The Snake” Roberts in a recent interview as a “poor attempt at trying to be a talk show.” Roberts even shared a story of a segment where Nikolai Volkoff brought a real bear onto the set, which then defecated.

If it moves forward, “Tuesday Night Titans” would join a growing catalog of wrestling content on Netflix, which became the new home for WWE RAW in the United States and most of WWE’s programming in many international markets earlier this year.
