The June 13 episode of WWE SmackDown culminated with Ron Killings attacking Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena. After a verbal exchange between Cena and CM Punk, Killings entered the scene and assaulted the champion from behind, applying Cena’s own STFU submission maneuver. Security personnel intervened to separate Killings from Cena.
The ambush occurred after Cena had called out Killings, only for CM Punk to appear instead. Punk confronted Cena in the ring, referencing their history and a perceived shift in their respective personas. Following the conclusion of the segment with Punk, the attack by Killings ensued.
Earlier in the broadcast, Cena opened the show with a promo in which he declared himself the “Mount Rushmore of wrestling.” During the address, he also made comments directed at the audience and CM Punk, and asserted he was responsible for the main event status of Ron Killings. He ended up being attacked by Ron right after leaving the ring, which was the first attack.”
This incident marks a continuation of a new direction for Killings, who has transitioned from his long-standing comedic R-Truth character to a more serious persona under his real name. Following the events on SmackDown, a match between John Cena and Ron Killings has been announced for the June 20 episode of the program.
