Joe Hendry has changed his approach regarding a potential match with John Cena. During an interview with “Busted Open Radio,” the TNA World Champion explained he’s taking a more tactful stance after previously using social media to campaign for a spot on Cena’s retirement tour.

What I need to do is respect the process…I’ve put things out there, people know what my dream matches are. I must respect the process. There’s TNA. There’s WWE…I’ve put those dream matches out there. I’m now gonna take a step back and…if the fans want to make something happen, they will make it happen. But I will respectfully step back and allow whatever will transpire to transpire.

Hendry appeared multiple times in WWE NXT last year, including challenging for the NXT Championship at NXT No Mercy. He also entered the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble, where Roman Reigns eliminated him. The working agreement between WWE and TNA allows Hendry to make additional WWE appearances.

Cena is scheduled to compete in the Elimination Chamber match on March 1, with the winner earning an Undisputed WWE Championship Match at WrestleMania 41.
