WWE Makes Major Announcement for SmackDown

Ahead of this week’s WWE SmackDown, General Manager Nick Aldis made several significant announcements, confirming a stacked show for the Blue Grass state. The main focus will be on the presence of the reigning WWE Champion, John Cena, who is scheduled to be in the building.

Cena’s appearance marks a hectic period for the superstar, his fourth for the company in just eight days, as part of his extensive 2025 retirement tour. Following his return on the June 9 episode of WWE RAW, Cena is now set to address a challenge laid down by CM Punk. The two are already slated to face off for the WWE Championship at Night of Champions on June 28 in Saudi Arabia.

In a video statement, Aldis outlined the plans for the evening.

Here are some of the things we have in store for the Blue Grass state. First things first. Let’s get the big one out of the way. The WWE Champion, the Never Seen 17, John Cena, will be in the building live tomorrow night on SmackDown. I’m sure John has a lot to say following the events of this past Monday Night on RAW and, of course, following Money in the Bank.

This farewell tour is a celebration of Cena’s 25-year career, with 35 to 40 worldwide appearances scheduled before his retirement in December 2025. His current run has been defined by a heel persona, which has added another layer of intrigue to his storylines, including his ongoing feud with Punk.

Aldis also confirmed another key appearance for the show, announcing that the winner of the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match will be present.

Speaking of the Money in the Bank, Miss Money in the Bank Naomi will be in the building to address the WWE Universe, and I’m sure she is elated given that huge victory. She will be in possession of the Money in the Bank briefcase.
