WWE Used Real Barbed Wire in Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens Match; Here’s Why

WWE used authentic barbed wire without modifications during the unsanctioned Kevin Owens versus Sami Zayn match at Elimination Chamber, according to Fightful Select report.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn engaged in a brutal unsanctioned match at Elimination Chamber after weeks of building tension.

The former friends’ rivalry intensified when Owens attacked Zayn with a Package Piledriver, believing his longtime partner had abandoned him during his pursuit of the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Zayn, visibly affected by the betrayal, agreed to face Owens in an unsanctioned match at the premium live event.

During their violent confrontation, both competitors utilized chairs, hockey sticks, trash cans, tables, and a barbed wire-wrapped chair as weapons. According to a report from Fightful Select, the barbed wire used in the match was completely authentic without any safety modifications.

The report noted that the decision to use legitimate barbed wire came at the request of at least one of the competitors involved in the match.

Owens ultimately secured victory after delivering two powerbombs onto the ring apron. The winner attempted to continue his assault by exposing the concrete floor beneath the ringside mats.

Randy Orton made a surprise return at this moment, interrupting Owens’ post-match attack.Orton, whom Owens had previously injured, hit him with an RKO and appeared ready to deliver his signature punt kick.

WWE producers and backstage personnel intervened before Orton could complete the punt kick.

Fightful Select also reported that WWE had anticipated the negative crowd reaction to the American national anthem before the broadcast began.

Political tensions between the United States and Canada have escalated recently, particularly after Donald Trump’s comments about making Canada part of the US.
