Sportskeeda senior editor Bill Apter recently discussed John Cena’s character and the impact of his unexpected heel turn during a conversation on The Wrestling Time Machine with Mac Davis.
Cena shocked the WWE fanbase by turning heel and aligning with The Rock, abandoning his 20-year persona built on Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect. The unexpected betrayal included a vicious attack on Cody Rhodes at Elimination Chamber.
Apter addressed the strong emotional reaction from Cena’s younger fans and suggested the star might explain his actions outside of wrestling programming.

The veteran journalist also provided his thoughts on whether Cena would remain a villain in the long term.
I think for him to retire as a heel, no. Somehow he’s gonna get aligned with Cody Rhodes down the road. I don’t know how they’re gonna go to this, but somehow it’ll happen.
Cena’s actions at Elimination Chamber have significantly altered his standing with the WWE audience. His next television appearance will likely generate a considerable response from fans who previously supported the long-time hero.
