The incident involving CM Punk and a fan after WrestleMania 42 at the WWE hotel in Las Vegas appears to have been just the tip of the iceberg of a major security problem.
According to PWInsider, multiple sources reported an ongoing failure to protect the company’s wrestlers throughout the entire Showcase of the Immortals weekend.
The same source indicates that, shortly before Punk got involved in his own controversy at the front desk, Damian Priest had to physically step in to help a female wrestler — whose identity is still unknown — who had been surrounded by a persistent group of fans.
In the case of the former World Heavyweight Champion, a video released by TMZ shows him slapping and knocking a fan’s phone out of his hand. The man was filming AJ Lee, Punk’s wife, hugging Bayley in the lobby of the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino.
Talent expected, according to the report, that additional security measures would be taken after the first night, which apparently never materialized.
Punk ended his WrestleMania 42 run by being defeated by Roman Reigns, losing the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of the second night of the event on April 19.
