Cody Rhodes believes fans may eventually grow tired of the way WWE and other wrestling companies constantly put numbers, metrics, and backstage details in front of the audience. He made the comment on the latest episode of What Do You Wanna Talk About?, where he was joined by Kit Wilson.
According to the Undisputed WWE Champion, having everything documented creates a level of accountability, but it can also overwhelm fans who simply want to watch the shows and support their favorite wrestlers.
“Everything is documented. It’s scary. It’s terrifying, but I suppose it also holds you accountable. I think there will come a point where there is so much information overload that fans simply stop caring.”
Rhodes specifically pointed to the heavy focus on figures such as arena attendance, questioning who really needs to track that kind of information so closely. Wilson agreed with the sentiment, saying that even as a more plugged-in fan when he was younger, he never cared much about debates over viewership, ratings, or backstage matters.
The timing stands out, as the comment comes just weeks after WrestleMania 42, an event WWE positioned as a major commercial success. The company announced more than 106,000 fans at Allegiant Stadium, a record 32 commercial partners, and more than 1.3 billion social media views.
This is not the first time Rhodes has recently addressed the behavior of highly engaged fans. During WrestleMania week, he also asked the audience to stop using the term “botch” when breaking down mistakes in matches.
