EVIL is expected to receive a new name in WWE following his NXT debut. The former NJPW star appeared on the April 28 episode, where he confronted Tony D’Angelo, but the company avoided officially identifying him by the name he used in Japan.

According to Fightful Select, the wrestler is currently listed internally under his real name, Takaaki Watanabe. That is not expected to be the final name he uses with the company.

The leading speculation points to another name. WWE filed a trademark for “Nox Raijin” on April 28 for wrestling performances, media, digital content, and entertainment services. PWInsider also noted that “Raijin” can be translated from Japanese as “god of thunder.”

The way his debut played out only added to the sense that a repackage is coming. During the segment, EVIL appeared without being announced by name, handed an object to D’Angelo, and left the ring.

EVIL exited NJPW after more than a decade with the promotion, where he became IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, won tag tournaments alongside SANADA, and led House of Torture, one of the most polarizing stables in the Japanese company. His final match took place at Wrestle Kingdom 20 in January.

As of now, WWE has not publicly confirmed the Nox Raijin name. That clarification is expected to come in the next few episodes of NXT, provided he remains one of the names circling Tony D’Angelo.
