John Cena has once again made it clear that his in-ring WWE career is over for good.
In an interview with TODAY, the former WWE Champion was asked about possibly wrestling again at some point, something that is common among major retired names in pro wrestling. Cena, however, was direct in ruling out any return.
“As an in-ring performer, I’m not going to take another bump. I’m 49 years old, I gave WWE my physical best. The product is very fast, and time is undefeated. When I was young, I promised the fans that when I was a step slower, it would be time to walk away. That happened, so it’s time to walk away.”
Cena also talked about how he felt after his final match, saying he was able to close that chapter without regrets. According to him, every time his music hit and he walked through the curtain, he gave the audience everything he had.

Cena’s final match took place in December 2025, when he was defeated by Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event, ending a career of more than two decades in WWE rings.
Despite his retirement, Cena remains connected to the company. Since then, he has served as host of WrestleMania 42, appeared at Backlash, and started working in a new role without any physical involvement in matches.
With that, the expectation is that any future Cena appearance in WWE will only happen in special segments or projects outside the ring.
