According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, an appearance by The Rock, who orchestrated Cena’s betrayal, is not expected to happen. The journalist revealed he spoke with two internal WWE sources, and neither confirmed the “Final Boss” as part of the show’s plans.
“The question is whether he’ll be part of the main event. We were told again that he is not committed at this time. It’s entirely up to him.”
However, The Rock’s initial involvement in the rivalry had strong business motivations. According to CBS Sports, Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel personally requested that the Hollywood star create a major storyline angle to help boost Elimination Chamber ticket sales.
It’s worth noting that if Cena defeats the “American Nightmare” tonight, he will not only solidify his dark alliance, but also capture his 17th world title. The achievement would break one of the biggest records in wrestling history and serve as the perfect capstone to his already announced final retirement from in-ring competition.
