Becky Lynch, one of the most influential stars in WWE history, opened up about the true origin of her gimmick, “The Man.”
During an appearance on the Going Ringside podcast, the former Women’s World Champion explained that the nickname goes far beyond a simple creative change — ultimately, it’s about self-confidence.
“So what it is is it’s more of a state of mind, right? It’s it’s it’s having a belief in yourself more than other people’s more than other people believe in you. It’s standing up and saying I’m the top dog here regardless of gender.”
“And and when you look at at our industry, it’s predominantly been being been the guys that have been on the top on the top deck and they’ve always been referred to as the man. Well, I’m the top dog now, so I’m the man.” h/t Ringside News.
It’s worth remembering that Lynch is at a pivotal moment in her long WWE career, having just returned after a long time away from the ring.
After signing a new multi-year contract with the company in January 2025, the wrestler has already confirmed that this current deal will be her last, indicating she plans to announce her retirement once the contract expires.
