Brock Lesnar’s farewell moment at WWE WrestleMania 42 might not have actually been a farewell. At least, that’s the belief inside WWE, according to a new report from “Wrestling Observer Radio.”

“The Beast Incarnate” removed his gloves and boots in the middle of the ring after falling to “The Ruler” Oba Femi in four minutes and 42 seconds on night two, embracing Paul Heyman as “Thank you, Brock” chants filled Allegiant Stadium. Lesnar also flashed the “X” injury signal before walking out.

During the most recent episode of the show, Dave Meltzer said there’s a strong sense backstage that the moment wasn’t actually the end of the line.

“I will only say that based on people in WWE, they believe he’s not retiring yet, although he is retiring at some point probably this year. I don’t know that anyone knows. This might be one of those things where everything is being kept quiet like the Seth Rollins thing. A couple of people have mentioned it, that’s the belief,” Meltzer stated.

BodySlam+ reported that only a handful of people were aware the gear would be left in the ring, while most within the company had expected the farewell to come at SummerSlam in Minneapolis. Fightful backed that up, noting that WWE officials didn’t anticipate Sunday being the night. Heyman has since insisted fans should expect “another 15 years of dominance” from his longtime client, while Triple H told “ESPN” the moment “certainly seemed that way.”

Meltzer added that the Lesnar-Femi program was initially pitched as a multi-match feud before being trimmed down to a one-off just weeks ago. WWE is already selling “Thank You Lesnar” merchandise on its official shop.
