Chris Jericho opened up about WWE’s old approach to dealing with lawsuits the company viewed as weak.
During the latest episode of Talk Is Jericho, in a conversation with attorney Mike Mandell, the current AEW star said that, during his time with the company, there was a clear directive not to settle cases out of court.
According to Jericho, the internal logic was to prevent even a small payout from opening the door to similar lawsuits.
“People will sue for anything. I know when I worked for WWE, one of the rules was we will not settle out of court for any lawsuit, right?”
“Because if you settle for one, then everybody’s going to start breaking through. They would rather pay, you know, $30,000 than give out 10 because if you give out 10, then everyone for the low-hanging fruit is going to start trying to get involved.”
The comments stand out given WWE’s long history of legal disputes, including cases filed by former wrestlers. One of the best-known examples was the class-action concussion lawsuit involving former talent, which ended with a win for the company.
