Cody Rhodes said he will lead Team USA in a traditional 5-on-5 elimination match at WWE Survivor Series WarGames against Team Mexico. Following Saturday’s Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, he made the announcement on the post-show.
Earlier in the night, Rhodes defeated Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match to open the show. He hit three Cross Rhodes and followed with a punt kick to his former mentor, and the match ended when Orton couldn’t get up before the 10 count.
Rey Mysterio appeared on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story? podcast on Friday and announced the match.
Later, Mysterio announced on Instagram that he will lead Team Mexico, and WWE confirmed it during the Crown Jewel pre-show. So Rhodes and Mysterio will be on opposite sides. There hasn’t been a traditional Survivor Series match since 2021. Since 2022, WWE has made WarGames the focus of the show.
Rhodes has been waiting even longer. It will be his first traditional Survivor Series match in 11 years. The last time was on the 2015 pre-show, back when he was Stardust, and he was the last man from his team to be eliminated.
Back in 2013, Rhodes and Mysterio were partners in a traditional Survivor Series match with Goldust and The Usos. But they lost to The Shield and The Real Americans, and Roman Reigns eliminated four of them, including Rhodes.
So far, the other members of Team USA and Team Mexico have not been announced.
