Cody Rhodes remains firmly established at the top of WWE. This Saturday, May 16, The American Nightmare officially passed the 70-day mark as Undisputed WWE Champion in his current title reign.

This is Rhodes’ third world title reign since returning to the company. Before this, he held the title for 378 days after defeating Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, and then for another 159 days between August 2025 and January 2026.

His current run, though, is far from smooth. WWE has confirmed that Rhodes will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther at Clash In Italy on May 31 at Inalpi Arena in Turin.

Gunther earned the opportunity on this week’s Friday Night SmackDown by defeating Royce Keys and officially becoming the title challenger. After the match, Rhodes appeared and hit The Ring General with a Cross Rhodes, adding even more tension ahead of the premium live event.

So while Rhodes has reached another important milestone as champion, his biggest test since the start of this new reign may be right around the corner.
