Cody Rhodes ended up making one of the most unexpected revelations of his appearance on Grave Conversations, the David Dastmalchian-hosted show where guests discuss death and legacy while lying inside coffins. The current Undisputed WWE Champion said he wants his funeral to be fully tied to the world of pro wrestling.
During the conversation, Rhodes explained that his main inspiration comes from Identity Crisis, the well-known DC Comics story. According to the “American Nightmare,” the funeral scene from the comic, with several heroes present in their full costumes, is exactly the kind of image he would like to see when his time comes.
Rhodes also revealed that he would like wrestlers in attendance to show up in character, without fully breaking kayfabe. He also asked to be buried in the traditional American Nightmare robe created by Sandra Grey.
“Bury me in the American Nightmare Sandra Grey robe. Bury me as I was.”
Rhodes’ connection to that kind of presentation is not exactly surprising. Since returning to WWE at WrestleMania 38, Dusty Rhodes’ son has turned his image into one of the company’s most theatrical, with grand entrances, special robes, and a strong visual identity.
Even while talking about his own funeral, Rhodes stuck to the same idea that has followed his career in recent years: leaving the stage as the character he built.
