Add as a preferred source on Google Finn Bálor has no preference between CM Punk and Cody Rhodes if he gets another shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Bálor will face Sami Zayn in a No. 1 contender’s match at SummerSlam on Saturday. The winner will move on to challenge whoever leaves the show with the title after Punk defends against Rhodes.
Speaking with Marco Ercole for Corriere dello Sport, Bálor said each potential opponent brings a different challenge, but neither name changes his confidence going into a future title match.
“Both have their plus sides, both have their negative sides. But whoever I face once they have the title around their waist, that’s who I wanna face.
Be it Cody or Punk who I’ve both stepped in the ring with many times, I fancy my chances against either one.”
Bálor earned the SummerSlam match by beating Damian Priest, Trick Williams and Royce Keys in a fatal four-way on the July 24 SmackDown. Jacob Fatu wiped out Keys during the finish, and Bálor followed with the Coup de Grace on Priest for the pin.
The former Universal Champion has already challenged Punk twice this year. Punk retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Bálor on Raw in Belfast in January and again at Elimination Chamber in February.
Bálor also wrestled Rhodes several times on Raw in 2023 and spent much of that year opposite him in Judgment Day tags.
The Undisputed WWE title has already changed hands twice since Night of Champions. Zayn ended Rhodes’ reign in a three-way before Punk beat Zayn on the July 6 Raw in Chicago, setting up the SummerSlam match with Rhodes.
