Add as a preferred source on Google Despite what the commemorative chairs say, CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes is not being added to as a Street Fight for night one of SummerSlam on Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
The speculation started when Punk posted a photo of the commemorative chairs produced for the show, which listed his Undisputed WWE Championship defense against Rhodes with a Street Fight stipulation attached. That had fans wondering whether a stip had been added at the eleventh hour.
Per PWInsider, however, people in WWE were asked about the photo and shot down the idea. The wording on the chairs is being chalked up to a production error and doesn’t reflect any change to the match.
WWE is still advertising Punk vs. Rhodes strictly as an Undisputed WWE Championship match, with no Street Fight, No DQ, or any other stipulation listed on the official SummerSlam page.
A stip wouldn’t have been out of nowhere, either. The two had a pull-apart brawl to close the 7/31 SmackDown that needed referees and agents to separate them.
Punk defends the title against Rhodes in their first singles match in nearly 18 years.
