Finn Balor is once again opening up about one of the most memorable moments of his WWE career, but he made it clear he doesn’t like revisiting it.
In a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Balor revealed that he has never rewatched his match against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam 2016, where he defeated “The Visionary” to become the first-ever WWE Universal Champion.
The Irishman suffered a severe injury to his right shoulder during the match after Rollins threw him into the barricade. Despite that, he was able to fight through it and capture the title.
When asked why he’s never gone back to watch the match or footage of the injury, Balor said the following:
“I get tagged in tweets daily of that spot, and I’ll scroll away before I hit the wall. I don’t like seeing it.
It’s just like, why dwell on the past? You should be looking forward, you can’t change the past, it happened. So what?”
The moment is still talked about today because it completely changed the course of Balor’s run on the WWE main roster. The night after SummerSlam, he was forced to vacate the Universal Championship, ending his reign after just one day.
Balor has never won another world title in WWE since, which is why that victory is still considered one of the biggest “what ifs” in the company’s recent history.
