John Cena is aware that the John Cena Classic didn’t win everyone over after it was announced at WWE Backlash, held last Saturday in Tampa, Florida.

The project was presented as a special night featuring names from WWE’s main roster and NXT talent, with the creation of a new title and direct fan involvement in choosing the champion. According to Cena’s explanation at the event, even wrestlers who lose their matches can be voted on by the audience to win the tournament.

The concept sparked a lot of discussion on social media, mainly over questions about how WWE plans to organize the format in practice. In a post on X, Cena admitted the idea still isn’t fully fleshed out.

“The John Cena Classic may not be perfect by any means yet, but it’s authentically mine, and I’m not perfect either. It reflects my values and beliefs.”

Cena also made it clear that he understands the risk of the project not working out.

“I know there’s a risk of total failure, but I’m not afraid of that and I believe it’s still worth entering the arena.”

The former wrestler explained that, with his in-ring career now over, he plans to use the relevance he still has to create opportunities for new talent and deliver a different experience for WWE fans.

So far, WWE has not announced a date, participants, or full rules for the John Cena Classic. Cena himself closed by saying that more details will be released as everything gets finalized.
