Kevin Owens has picked the date and location for his Undisputed WWE Championship match against CM Punk. The bout is set for the August 21 SmackDown at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada.
Owens approached General Manager Nick Aldis backstage during Friday’s SmackDown in Philadelphia and told him he wanted his title match on the Toronto show.
Earlier in the night, Owens and Punk went face-to-face for the first time since Owens’ return. Owens called out the champion for offering Cody Rhodes another shot at the title despite Owens already being the No. 1 contender. Punk fired back, arguing he helped open the door for a generation of independent wrestlers who went on to make it in WWE. Officials had to step in and separate the two after things got physical.
Owens earned his title shot at SummerSlam on August 2, making a surprise return to the ring. Nick Aldis had originally booked Sami Zayn vs. Finn Bálor for the No. 1 contender’s spot before adding Gunther and then the returning Owens, turning it into a Fatal 4-Way.
The return came after roughly 17 months on the shelf. Owens’ last match was against Zayn at Elimination Chamber 2025.
A win in Toronto would also snap a nearly nine-and-a-half-year WWE world title drought for Owens.
