Disney has a live-action Medusa movie in the works, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be among the producers on the project.
Deadline reported that Seven Bucks Productions, Rock’s production company, is developing the movie as part of its deal with the studio. Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, his Seven Bucks partners, are producing as well.
But at this point, Rock isn’t set to appear in the movie and will only work as a producer.
The movie is being written by Michael Montemayor, who wrote the live-action Tangled, another movie Disney is working on. Details on the story have not been revealed, but the goal is to present a much different version of the character from Greek mythology. She is known for having snakes for hair and turning anyone who looks at her into stone.
It hasn’t been announced yet who will direct the movie or who will be part of the cast. The movie also has not been given a release date.
The news comes less than three months after Rock was inducted into the Disney Legends as part of the class of 2026, at an August 16 ceremony held during D23 in Anaheim, California.
Rock’s last Disney movie was the live-action Moana, in which he returned as Maui. The movie was released on July 10 and opened with $43 million in North America, less than the $56.6 million debut of the original animated movie in 2016.
In WWE, Rock last appeared at Elimination Chamber 2025, where he played a part in John Cena’s heel turn. He has been away from WWE programming for more than 20 months, but he remains a member of the TKO board.
