The future of Brock Lesnar has been one of the most talked-about topics in recent days, especially after he hinted at a possible retirement from WWE at WrestleMania 42, following his loss to Oba Femi.
However, rumors that surfaced afterward suggest that The Beast Incarnate may still have one final match before retiring for good—against Gunther at SummerSlam in Minneapolis.
In a new update from WrestleVotes Radio, the rumors surrounding a showdown with Gunther have gained momentum.
“There is an internal consensus within WWE that Brock Lesnar truly said goodbye when he left his boots and gloves in the ring last Sunday at WrestleMania. People we’ve spoken to believe he is ready to end his career. Still, many expect that before the final curtain, he will have one last match at this year’s SummerSlam. Lesnar, who attended the University of Minnesota and was billed from Minneapolis throughout his WWE career, has only wrestled on TV twice in his home state—the last time being in January 2004. A source told us the company is quite confident in having him on the card on August 1 and 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium.”
Additionally, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Lesnar is expected to undergo a major character transformation for this farewell match in August.
The journalist notes that WWE plans to turn Lesnar into a babyface, as already hinted at during WrestleMania 42 in the segment following his loss to Femi, so he can arrive in Minneapolis later this year with full fan support.
